Last updated: October 13, 2025
1) Who I am
This is a personal website operated by an individual (the “Website”) sharing travel tips, stories, and guides.
Controller: the individual who runs checkmigtravelcolombia.com (“I”, “me”, “my”).
Contact: [email protected] for any privacy-related requests.
This notice explains what personal data I collect, why I collect it, how I use it, and the choices you have.
2) What this covers
- Data handled through this Website (contact forms, comments, cookies, basic analytics, and embedded content).
- I do not sell personal data.
- I do not run an online store here and there are no payments or transactions on this Website.
3) The data I collect
- a) You provide it

- Essential cookies: site functionality (e.g., remembering preferences), security, spam protection.
- Optional cookies (if used): privacy-friendly analytics or embedded media that may set their own cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Some features may work less smoothly without them.
4) Why I use your data (purposes) & legal bases (where GDPR applies)

- Legal compliance (e.g., responding to lawful requests) — Legal Obligation
I do not intentionally collect special category data (e.g., health, religion) or children’s data.
5) Optional third-party services (if enabled)
To keep tracking light, I avoid heavy tools. If I embed or enable any of the below, those providers may process your IP/browser info and set cookies under their own privacy terms:
- Analytics (e.g., Google Analytics or a privacy-friendly alternative)
- Embedded content (e.g., Instagram posts, YouTube videos, social share buttons)
Where legally required, I will request your consent before non-essential cookies or embeds load.
Tip: You can use your browser’s settings to block third-party cookies. (Google Analytics opt-out add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, if GA is used.)
6) Sharing your data
I only share data when necessary to run the site or comply with the law:
- Hosting/security providers that help operate and protect the Website;
- Legal disclosures if required to comply with applicable law, enforce terms, or protect rights.
I do not sell or rent personal data.
7) International transfers
The Website is hosted and/or processed in the United States. If you access the site from another country, your data may be processed in the U.S. I use reasonable safeguards allowed by law for any cross-border transfers carried out by my service providers.
8) Retention
- Contact messages: kept as long as needed to handle your request, then periodically cleaned.
- Comments & related logs: kept while the comment remains public and for security/spam prevention.
- Server logs: typically kept 30–90 days, unless needed longer for security or troubleshooting.
- Analytics: stored in aggregate or privacy-respecting form where possible.
I delete or anonymize data when it’s no longer needed.
9) Your rights
Depending on your location (e.g., EU/UK), you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object, portability, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. You may also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority.
- To exercise rights, email [email protected]. I may need to verify your identity.
U.S. note (CPRA/CCPA): This personal site is not operated as a “business” under California privacy law thresholds and does not sell personal information. You can still contact me with any privacy questions or requests.

This Website is not intended for children under 16. I don’t knowingly collect children’s data. If you believe a child provided data, please contact me to remove it.
11) Security
I use reasonable technical and organizational measures (HTTPS, security updates, minimal plugins, access controls) to help protect personal data. No website can be 100% secure, but I work to keep risks low.
12) Links to other sites
Links or embedded content may take you to third-party websites. Their privacy practices are their own—please review their policies.
